The DeKoven Center is a beautiful, memorable location for small and mid-sized weddings on the shores of Lake Michigan in Racine, Wisconsin. Home to the former Racine College, our nine historic buildings offer an idyllic location for wedding ceremonies and receptions. We also have overnight rooms available for couples and guests. Plan your entire wedding so you and your guests never have to leave our 11 acres of scenic property.

The Ceremony

The DeKoven Center offers two chapels for Christian wedding ceremonies of all denominations. Both chapels have working pipe organs.

If you’re looking for the intimacy of a chapel and the grandeur of a cathedral, St. John’s Chapel is just right for you. St. John’s beautiful Belgian Stained glass windows and vaulted ceiling with unique scissor trusses provide a striking and historic atmosphere for weddings and other special events throughout the year. The original carved wooden pews in choir form can accommodate up to 150 people. A fine pipe organ is located in the choir loft at the west end of the chapel. There are wonderful acoustics, and the chapel is fully amplified. It is also handicapped accessible.

Situated in the middle of the DeKoven Center’s historic quadrangle, St. John’s Chapel is surrounded by breathtaking gardens and towering shade trees, the perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs.

(As a courtesy, only those who have rented our facilities are allowed to use the grounds for wedding photography.)

For smaller weddings, St. Mary’s Chapel in Taylor Hall may be just what you’re looking for. Seating up to 50 people, St. Mary’s is bright and uplifting with a hardwood floor and hand-carved altar and reredos. A piano is available as well as the pipe organ.

Consider having an outdoor wedding in one of our beautiful gardens. With indoor contingency sites, you are guaranteed a magical wedding experience regardless of the weather. Lake Michigan provides cooling breezes for you and your guests. Both civil and religious ceremonies are allowed outdoors.

In case of inclement weather there are multiple contingency sites to choose from, including Taylor Hall, the Assembly Hall, St. John’s Chapel and the Great Hall.

The Reception

Celebrate with your closest 50 to 200 friends and family in one of our unique banquet facilities. The Great Hall, with its stained glass windows, beamed ceiling and hardwood floor is a perfect choice for a larger reception. Accommodating 200, the Great Hall is located on the shore of Lake Michigan and is easily accessible.

Accommodating 50-60 people, the Taylor Hall Dining Room is just right for hosting an intimate celebration dinner. For an elegant hors d’ oeuvres reception, the entire first floor of Taylor Hall is an excellent choice.

The Assembly Hall

Located on the easy-to-find lakeside of the DeKoven Campus, the Assembly Hall is ideal for bridal and baby showers and gatherings of up to 100 people. Bright and roomy, it is the perfect contingency site for an outdoor civil ceremony.

Guests

Overnight rooms are available in Taylor Hall, The DeKoven Center’s retreat facility. The enchanting building offers dormitory-style housing for guests at reasonable rates. Rooms are within easy walking distance of St. John’s Chapel and The Great Hall.
