“Hearts Open to God” will be the overall theme of this year’s Advent Retreat, set for December 6-8 at The DeKoven Center. The weekend retreat will feature a series of meditations and questions, written by The Rev. Sam Portaro and presented by Max Dershem, DeKoven’s executive director. There will also be time for reflection and participants can choose to be in silence if they wish.

A graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary , Portaro earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. He was also the Episcopal Chaplain to The University of Chicago and, before that, to the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and has served as a consultant and preacher nationwide and in England.
